The apartment is close to Shkallnur, to the south of Durres, about 20 minutes from the town’s historic centre. The town is home to the largest Roman amphitheatre (20 minutes) in the Balkans, as well as the ruins of a Byzantine forum. The 4th-century Venetian Tower, on the seafront, is now a restaurant and is the perfect place to watch the sunset over the Adriatic Sea. Durres gets lively at weekends and is known for its vibrant nightlife. Durres Summer Fest every June features international DJ’s and live performances.
Tirana is a 1-hour drive and makes a great day trip. It is an eclectic mix of Ottoman, Soviet and Fascist architecture. The city is easy to explore on foot. Blloku is an exciting, young area, full of cafés and interesting boutiques. The main square – Skanderbeg Square is a must-see. The city’s markets offer a window onto everyday life.
