Ta Petrina's Zarta is an old stone house which sits half way up the village of Volissos. The house has a wonderful view to the Aegean Sea from its large terrace. Fully renovated (in 2021) while retaining the feel of a traditional village dwelling, the house is comfortable and well equipped. You will find ZARTA a peaceful place to spend your holiday in.
If you are looking for a modern sterile resort hotel room with power showers, TV and the like, then this is not for you. On the other hand, if you are looking for a charming, 200 year old stone built house with a touch of romance, filled with artefacts, books and memories of the past, then this house just could be it! Of course there is wifi, air-conditioning and the essential amenities you need to make your stay enjoyable.
The house is on two levels. The living room/kitchen leads out onto a large private terrace with a stunning view over the village to the Aegean Sea. The bathroom with shower is also on this level. The upper floor is a large beautiful room with a comfortable double bed, a fireplace and a desk/workspace. It has a charming small balcony and a separate entrance from a path which winds its way down to the center of the village. The room has air-conditioning, a fan and the bed has a mosquito net. The kitchen has a small cooker, fridge, kettle, coffee maker, toaster as well as everything you need to cook at home if you want to. There ia a sofa/bed in the living room; an extra bed can be placed in the large bedroom upstairs if needed. Bedding and towels, including towels for the beach are provided. A baby cot and high chair can be supplied.
ZARTA can also be an ideal retreat for remote workers, digital nomads or writers; for longer rentals the price is negotiable.
The house is fully licensed by the GTO (Greek Tourist Organisation).
You can park a car close to the house free of charge. From ZARTA you can easily walk down to the center of the village where you will find a choice of several tavernas, cafes, and shops. It is only a three minute stroll.
Volissos is built on a hill nestling underneath a Genoese castle and looks south out across the blue waters of the Aegean. As you sit on your terrace enjoying the mountains slowly turning pink in the last rays of the sun, or as you wander around the village as it winds down from the castle, you quickly realize that Volissos is still very much a traditional village. It is 2 km from the little harbour/marina of Limnia and the nearest beaches of Lefkathia and Limnos, both of which have a beach bar (free use of umbrellas and sun loungers). Just a little further away is the 6 km long Managros beach, where it is always easy to find a quiet spot to enjoy the crystal clear waters of the Aegean Sea. Apart from these, whichever way you go up or down the coast, there are numerous beaches to choose from.
Volissos lies on the north west coast of the island of Chios, 40 km from the main town, port and airport.
The village has two mini markets, a butcher, a baker and even a candle maker. A green grocer comes around three times a week selling produce out of the back of his pickup though you can find fruit and vegetables in the local shops. Also local fishermen come around with the catch of the day. There is a Pharmacy, Post Office, Police Station and ATM machine. Volissos has a small clinic with a doctor available 24/7.
