You can take a boat from the marina over to visit the island of Spinalonga, previously a leper colony up until the late 1950s. 15 minutes’ drive will take you to Elounda, with a selection of eateries lining the harbour and some lovely boutique shops. Further afield, the town of Agios Nikolaos is well worth a visit.
